“I’m SO excited. I feel ready. I’ve practiced and practiced. The whole YEA! program in Chicago gave me the confidence that I needed to prepare for this moment on Saturday.”
Gizlangba Gbor is a 17 year old senior attending Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, IL. She graduated from the Young Entrepreneur’s Academy (YEA!) Chicago in 2020, was the winner of their Investor Panel, received $1,500 in seed funding to start her business and was a finalist in the prestigious national YEA! Saunder’s Pitch Competition. Gizlangba’s inspiration for her business “Margaret’s Child” was based on her own experience. She grew up in the foster care system frequently in biracial and transracial homes, had horrible hair and didn’t know how to take care of it until living with Margaret and her family. Together, they learned so much about her hair. “Margaret’s Child” was launched to help kids learn how to take care of their hair and avoid a lifetime of “bad hair days.”
After high school, Gizlangba plans to go to college and continue building her business. When she is not attending school or working on “Margaret’s Child” she likes to cook, create memories with friends or learn something new on the internet.
