#WhyWednesday is a weekly feature of a leader that is involved in our organization. A “why” is the reason they decided to become involved with Female Strong, what female empowerment and leadership means to them, or why they do what they do.
Rod Sowders is President and CEO of Synergy Flavors, a high growth flavor and food ingredient company known for its innovative taste solutions, exceptional service, and award-winning culture. During his leadership, the company has grown dramatically through a strong focus on customer needs, innovation, and strategic focus.
He holds an MBA from Emory University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
Rod has been on the YEA! Investor panel for two years, and he is a strong supporter of the organization.
What is Your “Why,” Rod?
I was invited to join the panel originally by a very good friend of mine, Laurette Rondenet, but it resonated with me as my daughter was just finishing college and preparing to join the workplace. Although she has excelled in her college studies and her short work career, she is doing so in the male-dominated field of computer engineering.
This program has inspired me to help these bright young women to have more confidence in whatever they choose to do, as they can truly do anything with the right mentors and examples. YEA! has some amazing coaches and mentors, and I am happy to continue to be a panelist as these girls also inspire me!
