We were so honored to have Female Strong’s CEO Jody Lavoie and Young Entrepreneurs Academy alum Gizangba “GiGi” Gbor featured on NBC Chicago last week.
NBC highlighted our YEA! 24-week program that allows young girls to build a business from start to finish. At the conclusion of the program, our girls participate in the Investor Panel – a Shark Tank style bid for real startup money.
GiGi was the winner of the 2020 YEA! Investor Panel. Her business idea was a book titled “Margaret’s Child” to help kids learn how to take care of their hair and avoid a lifetime of “bad hair days.” The inspiration for the business stemmed from her personal experiences in the foster care system.
Through YEA!, GiGi built up her confidence to be able to raise the funds necessary to publish Margaret’s Child. Learn more about GiGi and Margaret’s Child here.
Thank you to NBC Chicago and LeeAnn Trotter for providing a platform for sharing this inspiring story and thank you to 1871 for donating the space for us to film the segment!
